ABOUT

Chantal Barlow

In my interdisciplinary practice, I delve into the complexities of labor, luxury, and materiality, using my autonomous and chosen labor as a means of expressing care and elevating the luxury of materials, subjects, and concepts. I often incorporate personal artifacts and perspectives of underrepresented groups to bring attention to these perspectives in public spaces and challenge traditional notions of luxury.

Through abstraction and materialization of information, I create a nuanced exploration of the subtext and transparency of these themes, layering them together in my growing body of work to challenge the traditional understanding of labor, materiality and luxury. My artistic process is driven by the desire to understand and challenge the way we perceive these concepts and how they relate to one another.
