Mother’s Milk currently exists as twelve pieces of photographic documentation of four individual frozen sculptures. Mother's Milk positions the production, extraction (which I performed every 4 hours for an hour for 11 months) and preservation of my Mother's Milk, as a vehicle for healing through ritual and spirituality. As an overproducer, that labor has since benefited my own child and 3 other infants. With this extended maternal connection, I started to imagine the potential of the topical healing properties of Mother's Milk as having the capacity to function as a tool for emotional healing. Inside of these frozen sculptures are handwritten notes from other people that describe emotional wounds and intergenerational traumas. The work draws parallels to spiritual and ritual practices that take physical representations of a harmful person, time or situation and destroys them to offer a final, thorough cleansing of its lingering hold on an individual. The destruction is in the melting of the Mother's Milk, which theoretically washes away the trauma, releasing the person from its hold.

 

What you should know about the companion NFT that was available for only 24 hours on June 3rd, 2022:

• This custom contract (also known as an NFT (Non-fungible token) is a companion piece to Mother’s Milk. The first piece of documentation (the first photo on this page) will be associated with the NFT.

• Every 4 hours, for 1 hour, during an entire year, the contract “freezes.” This means during the 24-hour mint window, you will have to catch it when it’s not frozen for the hour. See deployment timestamp to know when it's available for minting.

• The mint price is free. I'm taking a "take what you need" approach: to learn, share and collect. You will still need to pay the Ethereum gas fee.

• The NFT cannot be sold for an entire year once minted. It will continue its freeze cycle for the entire year.

• There is a 15% creator royalty that will be effective in one year once the NFT can be transacted.

Minting 1 NFT means you will have 1 piece of documentation (the image above) out of the 12 pieces that were originally made to document the work. Mother’s Milk and the associated token with the above contract mechanics is part of an open edition available for only 24 hours.
